The What’s So Cool About Manufacturing® contest connects students with local manufacturers, offering a behind-the-scenes look at the technology, creativity, and teamwork that power today’s industry. Through company tours, interviews, and hands-on learning experiences, students discover that manufacturing is about much more than machines—it’s about innovation, problem-solving, and building the future.
Reading Southwest Middle School students recently partnered with us to learn about our operations, workforce, and community impact. Working collaboratively, the students planned, filmed, and edited their own short documentary-style video highlighting what makes their partner company “cool.” Along the way, they gained valuable skills in communication, teamwork, and digital media production.
In addition to showcasing their creativity and storytelling skills, students also compete for several awards. One of the most exciting parts of the contest is the Viewers’ Choice Award, where community members can vote for their favorite student-produced video online. This community-wide engagement helps celebrate students’ hard work while raising awareness about career opportunities in local manufacturing.
